SecondWind manufactures standalone, innovative energy recovery systems that integrate with a variety of air handling units and equipment. Our simple airfoil design installs easily with minimal structural impact adjacent the existing building’s equipment. Since performance and reliability are top priorities, SecondWind products necessitate little maintenance and our management tools integrate seamlessly to monitor performance through your existing building management system.
The modern research laboratory requires high volume, high velocity air exchange because the welfare of its employees is paramount to its operations. Biotech facilities provide clean, fresh air at high circulation rates and a point of exit velocity nearing 50 MPH (20 m/s). This creates an optimal arena for energy recovery on a 24/7 basis.
Computers, servers, routers and other equipment in a modern data center produce heat that requires vast amounts of air exchange to keep the equipment operating at peak efficiency. Large volumes of air circulate optimizing the opportunity to use the air movement and recover energy expended in the cooling systems, air makeup systems, and redistribution on a 24 hour, 7 day basis.
Similar to the biotech environment, industrial applications have employee health concerns in which air circulation is a critical factor. Many industrial applications have exhaust systems to meet regulations which govern specific industrial processes, such as particulate removal, heat removal (ovens) or clean air retrieval that benefit worker health. Inside air temperature and harvesting spent heat energy is less critical. The air circulation/exhaust and its sheer volume is what becomes the target for overall cost savings.
Indoor Air Quality is a major component in the design and operation of today’s working spaces. Personnel working in high quality, healthy environments require clean air delivery. Regardless of whether this is 100% fresh air or recirculated air, the air must be moved, and in moving the air, energy is expended. Our system works to recapture some of the expended energy in the recirculation and heat exchange systems at the cooling fans, exhaust fans and recirculation fans.
